Cupid is a Ruse.

Where Electro Love synthesized and amplified, Retro Love slows down, looks back, and takes apart. The second disc of Love Question Mark (2014) moves away from frenetic electronic beats and invites nostalgia into the mix instead — soul, folk, and vintage pop in the service of deeply unconventional questions about love’s biggest myths.

The Fulcrum described it precisely:
Retro Love “deconstructs the glorification and supposed celebration of love usually found in pop culture,” as The PepTides “tackle love through philosophy, science, religion, and medicine, challenging each one’s attempts to define and categorize the experience” — a record that “questions what that means without forcing any answers on the listener.”

Exclaim! noted that the band feels most naturally at home here — describing The PepTides as “much more comfortable on the groovy Retro Love side,” with their theatrical instincts perfectly matched to the warmth and weight of the material.
The full album was rated 8/10 and described as “an ambitious collection of fun, daring, unadulterated, true blue art.

The music video for “Love Will Find You,” directed by Claude MarQuis, was premiered by Exclaim! in May 2015. Exclaim! described the song as a “sweeping, dramatic ballad.

The video channels an old-school Hollywood aesthetic, opening with a smoky black-and-white shot of vocalist Rebecca Noelle, framing her sultry, soulful performance with classic cinematic restraint and intimacy. A striking visual moment occurs early on when a pair of hands appear behind her, creating an ambiguous — embrace? restraint? — effect that deepens the emotional texture of the song and underscores the tension between vulnerability and control that runs through the album’s themes.
