Love in the Age of Everything.

Love Question Mark (2014) is the fifth PepTides album — 31 original songs, every one containing the word “love” in its title, split across two discs. Electro Love is the first half: synth-driven, danceable, propulsive, and laced with social critique that hides in plain sight beneath an irresistible beat.

As Exclaim! wrote, the album “could very well have been titled 31 Love Songs,” noting its “theatricality, ambition, and thematic ingenuity… could hold its own alongside Magnetic Fields' 69 Love Songs.”*

The challenge Claude MarQuis set himself was explicit:
to write love songs by reinvention:
What new twist can love take beyond the first-person narrative?

The answer is Electro Love.

Love as consumer product.
Love as pharmaceutical.
Love as political act.
Love Made in China.
Love for pay.
Homme love whore.

The Fulcrum described the album as “a fun and perky listen, with real depth and darkness in its lyrics… it challenges some of the biggest myths we have — we may not all believe in God, but we’re all supposed to believe in love.”

Apartment613 called it “a love train” that takes you somewhere unexpected:
“Love is complicated, the apocalypse might be looming, but hey — if you’re here for each other you can happily dance until the end of love.”

Exclaim! also compared the band’s approach to the American musical tradition, describing The PepTides as channelling the spirit of The Rocky Horror Picture Show — theatrical, provocative, and impossible to ignore.

MarQuis directed two music videos from Electro Love, both premiered by Exclaim!:

“Love Lead Us to Sanctuary” (September 2014) and “Love Me Forever” (November 2014).

The latter also caught the attention of New York's Fourculture Magazine, which featured it under the headline "Pop Art Isn't Dead" — invoking Warhol to describe the band's visual sensibility.
